The dock is quite impressive; it does have a tendency to run down the battery if the phone is not plugged in. One of the best things is the dock is available at a reduced price for those who take on a contract with Orange – somewhere in the £50 region.

The Lapdock is also excellent though it has a huge price for what it is. Laptops are available for something around this price range and this makes the laptop a tad redundant. The device itself is a screen and keyboard shell the phone plugs into. This then allows the device to perform as a laptop.

It’s based on a Linux system and is called WebTop. The screen amazingly has both this system and also shows Android when in use. This can be confusing but allows you phone access as well as allows you to do your laptop related work at the same time. The system is well executed and feels as near to a laptop as you could expect. It doesn’t slow down too much under pressure and it is a feasible netbook replacement.

However, is it worth £300?

Well unless you are a gadgetphile and love to have the latest thing it isn’t. It’s not as fast as a lot of laptops you could get for a little more and it seems like an expensive gimmick more so than a portable solution – if it were cheaper it may be the opposite.

So the Multimedia hub is worth its money, especially at a reduced contract price, however the Lapdock although great fun is not.
